CenterPoint Energy says 56 thousand cloud-to-ground lightning strikes hit Houston during Saturday’s thunderstorms. The company monitors lightning strikes with 150 sensors placed around the Houston area.

CenterPoint says the tens of thousands of strikes detected on Saturday happened between 3 a.m. and 7 p.m. The utility says lightning contributed to the 190 thousand power outages experienced by homes and businesses during the storms.
