Researchers at the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley say they’ve made a discovery that could help with the early diagnosis of a degenerative disease. The research team from UTRGV’s School of Medicine has reportedly discovered a biomarker that signals damage to motor neurons.
The biomarker can be detected in urine samples once it is released from the damaged cell. Researchers say the discovery could lead to tests that would allow the early diagnosis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
