Rio Grande Valley health officials are trying to make the public aware of an intestinal illness that has been reported in more than a dozen states. Cyclosporiasis has been linked to fresh produce and can lead to explosive diarrhea, loss of appetite, weight loss and fatigue.
The Hidalgo County Health and Human Services Department says eight cases have been reported so far this year, while Cameron County Public Health has recorded just two cases. Anyone who experiences diarrhea lasting more than a few days should see a medical professional as soon as possible.
