U.S. Senator John Cornyn is supporting two of President Donald Trump’s diplomatic nominees, after all. Cornyn had threatened not to vote for Trump’s nominated ambassadors to Jamaica or Slovakia unless the White House agreed to distribute funds for a U.S. global initiative on HIV and AIDS prevention.
On Wednesday, during the meeting of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Texas Republican voted to advance both nominees after receiving the assurance of the State Department that the funds would be released.
