Officials have announced the death of Lyford City Commissioner Albert Cavazos. Lyford Mayor Pablo Morales released a statement remembering Cavazos Monday.

Morales called the commissioner a tireless advocate for the community, saying he was always willing to lend a hand wherever he was needed.

Cavazos served as a law enforcement officer and dispatcher in Willacy County before becoming commissioner, and also ran a food pantry in Lyford. His funeral will be held on Friday.
