Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller is calling on Governor Greg Abbott to temporarily suspend the state’s gasoline tax.

Texas charges a gas tax of 20 cents per gallon, which pays for building and maintaining roads, and also provides funding for schools.

Pump prices change week-by-week based on oil markets and global factors. Gas in Texas is still cheaper than in most states, but is still a bit higher lately. Other states, such as Georgia and Indiana, have taken steps similar to what Miller is suggesting to help people deal with gas prices.
