Texas public schools kids may soon be required to read the Bible. The State Board of Education is considering a first-of-its-kid push to create a statewide “required reading” list for each grade.

Ten excerpts from both the Old and New Testaments are considered, including “The Eight Beatitudes” from the book of Matthew. The religious passages are said to provide greater historical and literary context for longer novels.
