The bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville is calling the recent detention of a McAllen nun “wildly disturbing.”

Bishop Daniel E. Flores released a statement saying there are still a lot of questions about the Sunday arrest of Sister Leticia Ugboaja. The Nigerian-born sister was reportedly walking to Mass in McAllen in her nun’s habit when she was detained by ICE agents.

Flores said no one should be arrested while peacefully walking to church, while adding that the nun’s detention may spotlight a need to reform ICE protocols.
