A South Texas judge is considering a request to dismiss a wrongful death lawsuit against a company that distributes energy drinks. A district court judge heard arguments during a hearing in Hidalgo County Tuesday.
The family of Weslaco teen Larissa Rodriguez sued Glazer’s Beer and Beverage after the high school student died from a cardiac condition caused by excessive caffeine consumption. They claim the packaging on the teen’s favorite energy drink did not contain sufficient warnings about the dangers of drinking too much caffeine.
The company filed a motion to dismiss last month, saying the family should sue the drink’s manufacturer rather than the distributor.
