A group of New York City landlords is suing to stop a new rent-freeze pushed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani. The city’s Rent Guidelines Board recently voted to approve the freeze on some leases in rent-stabilized apartments.
The seven landlords who filed in Staten Island state court say Mayor Mamdani essentially cheated the process by appointing six of the nine members after campaigning on a rent freeze.
The suit also argues that the board cherry picked data to downplay costs for landlords, landlords the complaint says are forced to deal with rising costs and inflation.
