A South Texas man has received a 37-month federal prison sentence for using a teen in a human smuggling scheme. The sentence for 27-year-old Lizandro Monroy was announced Monday by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas.
Monroy admitted to paying a 15-year-old to pick up and transport smuggled Chinese nationals from a location near the Rio Grande River in Roma last year. Monroy had two other convictions for human smuggling before his latest arrest.
