McAllen’s police chief says recent crime statistics prove his claim that the city is one of the safest border communities in Texas. Chief Victor Rodriguez spoke yesterday during an event sponsored by the McAllen Chamber of Commerce and McAllen Crime Stoppers.

Rodriguez praised the community, city officials and his officers for helping end 2025 with the lowest crime rate in 40 years. Rodriguez said a comparison of Brownsville, McAllen, Laredo and El Paso shows that McAllen is the safest border city in the state.
