A Houston murder suspect who fled to Italy before his trial was scheduled to begin now faces a federal charge.
Lee Gilley reportedly used a fake Belgian passport and a phony name when he flew Air Canada to Milan on Sunday. When Italian authorities took him into immigration custody, Gilley told them his real name and tried to claim asylum.
Gilley is accused of strangling his pregnant wife in 2024 and cutting off his ankle monitor before fleeing the country. He’s charged with the federal crime of interstate flight to avoid prosecution.
