The State Water Implementation Fund for Texas is reporting a shortfall of funding this year.
The Texas Water Development Board says SWIFT had more than a billion dollars available this year to support water infrastructure projects. But requests for funding topped four billion dollars, and 13 of the 23 projects involved had to be denied.
One of them was a desalination plant for the Coastal Bend, including Corpus Christi, which is in a water crisis. It’s the first time in SWIFT’s 11-year history that the fund has had to say no to an applicant.
