The Texas Attorney General’s Office has opened an investigation into three cities in the Rio Grande Valley.

Attorney General Ken Paxton notified Roma, San Perlita and Weslaco that they failed to comply with new state audit and transparency requirements.

The law prohibits cities from imposing property tax increases unless they comply with the required guidelines. More than 130 cities around the state have reportedly violated the new rules.
