The Texas Attorney General’s Office has announced an investigation into compliance with a state law requiring the display of the Ten Commandments in school classrooms.

The probe announced Thursday targets more than 20 schools, including Brownsville and McAllen independent school districts. Paxton said the school districts named were involved in litigation to overturn the law, and that he’s seeking documentation to prove they comply.

The Brownsville ISD issued a statement saying it has provided the requested material to the Attorney General’s Office.
