A new state law is reportedly hitting smaller Texas towns hard. The law prohibits cities from raising property taxes if they’re behind on their required annual financial audits.

Last month, Texas Attorney General Paxton told more than 130 Texas cities to freeze their property tax rates because they’re in violation of that law.

Most of the towns involved have fewer than ten thousand residents, and are finding affordability of the audits to be a problem.
