An investigation is underway into the death of an inmate at the Bexar County jail on Thursday. The sheriff’s office says Elizabeth Nero experienced a medical episode inside her cell, and despite lifesaving efforts, she was pronounced dead at around 5:30 p.m.

Investigators say she may have died as a result of “drug dependency or detox issues.” Nero was arrested last Friday on a state felony drug charge and failure to identify. She’s the fourth inmate to die at the Bexar County jail this year.
