Abbott Calls On Mexican Government To Deport Betancourt Suspect

Governor Greg Abbott is asking the Mexican government to arrest and deport a suspect in the murder of Mission businessman Eddy Betancourt.

Abbott issued a statement Friday calling Betancourt’s December 27th shooting senseless and tragic. He demanded that the Mexican government coordinate with American officials to extradite Reynaldo Mata-Rios to Texas to face trial.

A murder warrant for Mata-Rios was issued in McAllen on December 29th, though investigators have not confirmed that he fled to Mexico to escape arrest.
