Authorities are releasing the name of an elderly man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Edinburg earlier this week. Eighty-one-year-old Steven Orth died after a confrontation with police on West Sprague Road on Wednesday.

Investigators say Orth wanted a group of contractors working at a canal to leave the area, and that he made threatening statements during the confrontation. He was reportedly shot when he pointed a firearm in the direction of police officers. The Texas Rangers are leading the investigation into the shooting.
