Governor Greg Abbott is calling for a ban on the development of new data centers in rural parts of Texas.

Abbott made the announcement on Tuesday during a campaign stop in the East Texas town of Bullard. Mostly he focused on his plan to cut property taxes.

Earlier this month, the governor called on data centers to add new power generation to the electric grid, pay for their own infrastructure costs, reuse their own water, and take other steps to limit their impact on nearby residents.
