The Brownsville City Commission is moving forward with a plan to de-annex land recently acquired by SpaceX.

The council voted to de-annex the 444-acre parcel at a special meeting on Saturday. A SpaceX representative said the city doesn’t provide any services to the parcel and noted that the company can do so quicker and cheaper following the de-annexation.

The commission also signed a memorandum of understanding with SpaceX to help expand water infrastructure through a partnership with the Brownsville Public Utilities Board and Southmost Regional Water Authority.
