Cameron County has issued a disaster declaration to help coordinate its response to heavy rain and potential flooding.

County Judge Eddie Trevino, Junior, issued the local disaster declaration Monday. County residents are being urged to monitor weather conditions and avoid driving in flooded areas.

The mayor of Weslaco also signed a local disaster declaration Monday, urging residents to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel.
