Iran is suggesting it will continue to control the Strait of Hormuz despite agreeing to a ceasefire with the U.S. President Trump announced Tuesday that Iran had agreed to a two-week ceasefire under the condition that the strait be reopened to oil shipping in the Persian Gulf.

Following the announcement, Iran’s foreign minister posted on X that “for a period of two weeks, safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz will be possible via coordination with Iran’s Armed Forces.”

The “Wall Street Journal” says before the war, over 100 ships used to pass freely through the strait each day. Iran is now suggesting it wants to control the strait permanently.
