Convicted murderer Karmelo Anthony is continuing his legal battle to get a new trial. Anthony’s attorney and his parents held a news conference on Wednesday to talk about what happens next.

Defense attorney Russell Wilson said he hopes to appeal Anthony’s conviction by next month. Right now, Anthony’s case is pending in the Fifth Court of Appeals in Dallas.

The appeals process is expected to last well into next year. Anthony fatally stabbed 17-year-old Austin Metcalf at a high school track meet last year.
