The punishment phase continues today in the capital murder trial of the man who admitted to killing seven-year-old Athena Strand. Tanner Horner pleaded guilty last week before the first witness could take the stand.
Horner accidentally hit the girl with his FedEx truck while delivering a package to her family’s Wise County home in December 2022. She survived, but Horner then kidnapped and killed her.
The state is seeking the death penalty. On Tuesday, the jury heard from a Wise County constable, two forensics experts, and two women who testified that Horner had sexually assaulted them when they were teens.
