President Trump is suggesting he could withdraw Todd Blanche’s nomination for attorney general until Texas Senator John Cornyn and another Republican holdout are out of office.
In a Truth Social post Thursday, Trump said he has “no objection to temporarily withdrawing” the nomination if Senators Cornyn and Thom Tillis of North Carolina “do not do the right thing.”
Cornyn and Tillis have both expressed reservations about confirming Blanche over Trump’s proposed anti-weaponization fund. Trump’s post came after the Senate Judiciary Committee postponed a vote on Blanche’s nomination that had been planned for Thursday.
Cornyn responded to Trump in a post on X saying, “POTUS is mistaken if he believes concerns about the provisions in his tax lawsuit settlement are limited to me and Senator Tillis.”
