The University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley is moving closer to opening an optometry school next fall. The UT System Board of Regents recently approved tuition rates and fees, as well as over 41 million dollars in funding for new academic and clinical facilities.

The school is waiting on approval from the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education as part of the opening process. It will become the second public optometry school in the state when it opens next year.
