A former top deputy to Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton has a new job. Aaron Reitz was sworn in as the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Texas on Thursday.

Reitz recently placed fourth in the Republican primary for Texas attorney general despite Paxton’s endorsement. He’ll oversee federal prosecutions in 43 counties, including the cities of Houston, Corpus Christi, McAllen and Brownsville.
