Boca Chica Beach will not be renamed Cyber Beach. A federal panel voted against the name change Thursday. Reports indicate that someone outside of Texas suggested the change to the U.S. Board of Geographic Names as a tribute to Tesla’s Cybertruck.
A member of the committee considering the change said nearly 28-hundred emails opposed the new name, while only one supported it. Local lawmakers say they want to explore ways to make it harder to change the name of the beach.
