A South Texas police chief is facing charges for allegedly driving while intoxicated. Escobares Police Chief Nelson Martinez was reportedly pulled over by a state trooper in La Grulla early yesterday.
The trooper said Martinez showed signs of intoxication, including slurred speech, red eyes and an inability to retain his balance.
Martinez allegedly refused a breath test and was taken to the Starr County jail. City officials say they are monitoring the investigation and will call a special meeting to consider formal action against the chief.
